Embrace Fresh: Abandon Stale

Ever feel like you are stuck in a rut? Doing the same-old, same-old at work or home? You are not alone. Too many people feel trapped in stale, unhealthy environments -- unable to break from the daily drone of a noncreative lifestyle. What is the best way to abandon the stale parts of your life and embrace something fresh and exciting? Get Out!
That's right. Simply MOVE OUT of your current environment into another one that is more engaging, interesting, stimulating...and perhaps, new. "Detaching from a familiar environement can help get perspective on everyday life," says Adam Galinsky, professor at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. Galinky asserts that going anywhere is "good for the brain."
That means that you can stimulate creativity and spark passion just by changing venues. Here are a few other ideas: Go outdoors. Take a walk. Visit the library; peruse the stacks. Take a cooking or photography class. Visit the musuems in your hometown. Enter a local race or pie-eating competiton. Subscribe to a blog that highlights your hobbies. Dance. Write. Drive your car an hour away from home as a day trip. Volunteer to help a local organization. Purge your bookshelves and donate to neighborhood schools. Rearrange furniture and pretend you've moved. Find something you are passionate about and do it!
